By Kaiser7February 23, in Gunsmithing. I just happened to think of another gunsmithing issue I've been thinking about. I find having to pull a thin metal lever towards me is awkward, and it is just really annoying, it's my main complaint against an otherwise good rifle. I'm not sure if anyone else feels the same way, or if they know of any fixes for this. There is an aftermarket release you can get the has a handle coming off the bottom for a better grip. Check brownells or midway for gun specific parts and you should be able to find one.
I looked through there, no dice. I didn't think so, but the mechanism is so awkward, it shocks me no one has come up with anything better. Maybe I could come up with something, I mean pulling the lever towards the shooter is awkward, I should see if there's a way to do it similar to other rifles where you pull it away from the shooter.
No clue if there's a way to work that with the way the magazine fits in or not. You can post now and register later. If you have an account, sign in now to post with your account. Paste as plain text instead.Level 7 accenture salary

After all, if I wanted to shoot sub-MOA groups at yards and beyond, I would spend the money on a 6mm rifle with a bull barrel and Leupold scope. I was caught up in the Internet tales of astounding accuracy and I wondered how I had managed to survive so long without an AccuTrigger gun.
This miracle trigger suddenly became my only requirement for my new rifle. And of course, this video bragging on Savage accuracy sealed the deal for me. I had to get a Savage. The basic Savage Mark 2 looks good with a wooden stock.Spectrum master agent
The checkering is sharp and a piece of paper slips between the forearm and the barrel, showing that the barrel is indeed free-floating. The one blemish is the plastic trigger guard. I put a cheap scope on top anyway. The Savage Mark 2. Photo by Matthew Forte. Now, for the reason I choose this rifle over others — the trigger. First, I wish I could adjust its pull weight without separating the stock from the barrel and action, but once the gun is apart, fine adjustment is easy and quick.
The Savage Accu-Trigger after removed from the stock. The stamped metal round magazine curves toward the muzzle and is exactly the wrong place for me — right where my hand goes when shooting the rifle offhand. At 50 yards with Blazer grain bullets fired from a bench, most of the shots were inside a 1-inch circle and several were outside that group.
In the end, I have two reasons to defend the rifle. First, I tried only one kind of ammunition. Shooting high, but in the center with Savage Mark 2. Optics to Trick Your Guns Out with in Over the last year some of the best reflex sights the market has seen made their way to consumers. When getting into long distance shooting, I decided to pick up a Savage rifle to start with. I started with a Savage 12LRP in 6. My thinking was that I could use the factory stock for awhile and just buy some aftermarket magazines. Darkeagle Customs makes 10 round magazines that fit the factory bottom metal in the Savage rifles.
This makes the rifle out of the box have detachable 10 round magazines with an HS Precision Stock and is chambered in 6. I gave Dan at Darkeagle Customs a call and after a short conversation, Dan sent out 3 of his magazines and an extended mag release.
The mags arrived in short order and they come with a decent set of directions. The tops of the magazines are the same as factory mags, but have a machined extended base and different follower in them. The instructions tell how to install the extended mag release which is very simple and while a picture would be nice, I found that it was not necessary.
The magazines seat in the factory position very easily, and function flawlessly. I cycled all 3 magazines by hand with ammunition into the rifle and they all perform as they should. The installation of the Extended mag release took a just a few minutes. Once the bottom metal is removed, push out the pin of the factory mag release and remove it and the spring being careful not to lose the spring. Then just install backwards. The extended magazine release was not really needed to use the magazines, but due to me wanting to use this rifle for Precision Rifle Matches, I waned to be able to get at the release quickly.
The extended release does make magazine changes quicker, and easier to get to. The fit and finish of the magazines and extended magazine release are fantastic, the machining on the magazines are very high quality.
Look forward to seeing more from Darkeagle Customs in the coming months. Dan is going to take this rifle and work his magic pretty soon. Visit www. Easy to install and in fact changing the part took less time than putting the grip panels back on. If you have problems manipulating the small mag release on the MK II this will be a big improvement. They work great. This thing made my new-to-me Mk1 much, much easier to use. I really enjoy how it feels and how easy it now is to remove the magazine.
Only comment is that I wish it came with instructions -- took a bit of time to make sure I was pushing it into place the right way against the inner spring inside the grip. I found a good tutorial online that made it a snap; inserting a simple fold of paper instructions with this would make it just that much easier. That said -- it does its job well and I really enjoy using it. Extended mag release for the ruger mark II was a piece of cake to install. It works great.
I installed some after market grips on my Ruger MK II target pistol and it exacerbated an already known problem with the magazine release. Along with just being rough on the thumb before the grip addition, the factory magazine release contains a spring that has a tendency to slip off the factory release and bind between the release and the frame of the pistol making the already unpleasant action of releasing a magazine that much more difficult.
The new grips also made getting to the release more difficult as well. This aftermarket extended release is one of several versions available in the market that really makes a difference with these Ruger pistols! After installing this new extended release, it solved the problem with the binding spring AND made the action of releasing the magazine soooo much more easy and pleasant with the new grips! Solved both problems and is well worth the money! Highly recommended!
Mk I Extended Magazine Release. I installed the Mk I extended magazine release on my MK I A frame pistol and it was a 5 minute perfect drop in part. It works perfectly with no modification. I'll never be able to go back to one of the old factory catches after using this one, it is so much easier I may even use it in competitions that require a reload now.
I saw the other review that mentions it not working in an older A frame but it worked perfectly in my A frame but it was made about I ordered this extended magazine release for a mark 1 pistol.
However it does not fit seamlessly into the mark 1. If you purchase it plan on having to file it down and work on it just to use it on the mark 1. It may fit perfect for mark 2 pistols but didn't work for me on mark 1.
This replacement magazine is a factory original from Savage. Factory replacement parts are manufactured to the exact same specifications and tolerances and use the same manufacturing materials as the original parts which guarantees excellent fit and reliable operation. Keeping a few extra factory magazines around is never a bad idea; extra magazines save loading time at the range and also serve as a backup for those days when you simply cannot remember where you put your primary magazine.

Shooting Industry "Best New Rifle ". This also illustrates the down time between US products hitting their market then finally limping into ours! The basic tubular receiver and skinny bolt remained, but made from stainless steel with a heavy barrel and dropped into a pretty decent, brown, laminate thumbhole stock.Backup omv 4
The rifle had the look of a varminter and shot very well indeed. I had to wait over a year to get one for review; such was the popularity of this model and I can see why. The stock is a nice piece of laminate and also a good design.
Savage Mk II-BTVS
Savage has cut a channel in the top to allow the bolt to be easily removed. The thumb aperture is well angled and offers a big hole to put your digit through. At the rear is a slim rubber pad, less for recoil and more about shoulder adhesion. The barrel is fully floated in the rectangular forend which shows vents in the sides. Like all current Savage rifles; be they rimfire or centrefire an Accutrigger is fitted as standard. The Accutrigger is set at around 3lbs and offers a crisp and light release; it can be adjusted, but cannot be made so light as to be unsafe as it will go into a lock down position if this is attempted.
Initially Savage only fitted it on special models but made the decision to make it universal. This then jump-started companies like Remington and Ruger to offers a similar feature, so improving guns across the board. Ammunition was all sub-sonic hollow point and a cross-section of Remington, Lapua and Eley. Garlands fitted out the rifle with a Tasco variable scope. A nice touch are the two, forward, QD sling swivel studs that allow the fitting of a bipod further back if you choose.
What I do not like is the basic nature of the magazine release system! Made from a thin piece of sheet steel, it sits tight up behind the mag and has to be pulled back to drop the empty. This is an awkward movement and one not helped if you are wearing gloves. Which is a pity, as it detracts a little from the ability of the rifle in terms of handling.
Overall what Savage have done to their basic 22 rimfire bolt-action rifle is good, the thumbhole stocks lifts it both practically and cosmetically. On reflection I could live with one of these, though I would invest in a couple of shot magazines. But what you are getting for the money is pretty damn good none the less. I just ordered this rifle and am very excited about taking it out to the range when it comes in this week.
Thanks for the article, as it is ver well written and not a bit biased. Looking forward to joining the ranks of the Savage owners! Just picked up a new BTVS Fired about rounds now and i am very impressed with this rifle. This gun will only get better once it wears in.
